Nearly one third of all Americans plan to shop this Memorial Day weekend and retailers are rolling out some massive discounts to meet demand. Most retailers are hosting big sales but apparel will be most heavily discounted.
Most shoppers are expected to visit brick-and-mortar stores, according to a study by ChargeItSpot, but digital deals will be equally enticing.
To be honest, there are too many sales to list here. National chains such Walmart, Target will have a variety of seasonal merchandise on sales. Department stores are reliably slashing prices, especially on apparel. Nordstrom will also host its annual half yearly sale through June 4, with 40% off merchandise across categories.
Mattress, furniture and appliance sales have kicked off on schedule at all pertinent outlets. These are among the best days to buy big ticket items outside of Black Friday. Store know that couples need to shop for these together and host sales on long weekends to accommodate.
If you’re the kind of person who waits to stock up on basics, now is the time to pull the trigger. Items like lingerie, leggings and even cashmere classics are great deals. Even brands that rarely discount, like Hanky Panky, are doing so now.
Up and coming brands such as Aritzia, Steven Alan, Uniqlo and Net-A-Porter have sizable discounts.
Some of the most compelling deals are coming from brands directly. Have a favorite shoe, handbag or sunglass brand? Chances are very good you’ll find a nice deal online.
Alas, not every brand is having a sale. All Saints and Zara have opted out of the Memorial Day festivities. Perhaps the European based brands simply hasn’t caught on to the US sales cycle.
It’s also a good idea to wait on hot summer items like grills or early back-to-school items, according to DealNews. For that, wait until after Memorial Day and wait until Fourth of July, when seasonal merchandise gets the clearance sale treatment.
