N R Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys, has expressed sadness over the recent layoffs in the IT companies.

“…It is sad…,” Murthy told PTI, refusing to elaborate on the matter.

Recently, Infosys had announced it could fire hundreds of middle and senior level employees during its bi-annual performance review.

Besides, other IT majors like Wipro and Cognizant have also fired hundreds of employees to trim costs.

While Cognizant rolled out a voluntary separation programme to senior level employees offering them 6-9 months of salary, Wipro has asked about 600 employees to leave as part of its annual performance appraisal.

IT companies have been one of the largest employers in India; however, with time, increasing automation has led to job losses.
