Maruti Suzuki Ignis India Launch On Schedule; Will Arrive This Festive Season
As opposed to ongoing rumours about the Maruti Suzuki Ignis’ launch being postponed to 2017, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has told us that it will go ahead with the launch of the car this year itself. Slated for a festive season launch, the all-new Ignis will be Maruti Suzuki’s first sub-4 metre crossover in the Indian market. The car was first showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo alongside the upcoming Baleno RS, which is also slated for a launch this festive season. Like the regular Baleno hatchback, the Ignis and Baleno RS will also be retailed via Maruti’s premium dealership network, Nexa.Suzuki has been selling the Ignis in Japan for a few months now and India is the second market to get this sub-compact crossover. In fact, right around the time of its launch in India, the carmaker will also showcase the Ignis at the 2016 Paris Motor in October. As for the backlog that Maruti has of its current crowd favourites like Vitara Brezza and Beleno, the carmaker has claimed that it is working on ramping up the production in its two plants in Manesar and Gurugram. Moreover, once the upcoming Suzuki plant in Gujarat is active, the production of Ignis might even be shifted there for a more channelized and timely production.

Coming to the car itself, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ignis crossover was first showcased as the Suzuki iM-4 concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The car carries certain attributes of an SUV, like high ground clearance and a good field of view from within the cabin. In terms of dimensions, the Ignis is 3679mm long, 1579mm high and 1478mm wide. As for the design, the crossover comes with a smartly designed grille that also houses the headlamps that make it look like one single unit. It comes with projector lights and LED daytime running lights that add additional character to it. The car also comes with flared wheel arches and a bold shoulder line along with a distinctive rear profile featuring a large windscreen, well-sculpted hatch door and plastic cladding on the bumper.

In terms of feature offerings, the Japan-spec model gets 4-Wheel-Drive (4WD) system, hill descent control, Suzuki’s adaptive Dual Camera Breaking system (DCBS), lane management system, along with front, a rear and side camera for parking assist. While we will get all or most of these features in India, but we can only confirm that once we get to drive the car. As for other standard features, the Ignis is likely to come with ABS and EBD as standard along with the driver and co-passenger airbag as an option on the base variants and standard on higher variants.

Under the hood, Maruti Suzuki Ignis will come only with the 1.0-litre BoosterJet petrol engine, whereas the diesel could be added to the variant line up later in the timeline. Transmission options will comprise a 5-speed manual and an automatic unit.
